What I did to give them some kind of reference was to make overheads of several dinosaurs. With an overhead projector I showed the dinos on the wall. Some of them even made it onto the cieling, some of them filled one whole wall. I had not anticipated what happend when I did this. The children wanted to touch the dinos. They touched the tail, legs etc. A few brave ones even touched the teeth. It was a great way for them to get a better understanding of what big meant * Stegosaurus Hat You'll need: 4 paper plates ( per child) crayons stickers, ribbon, cotton balls or yarn stapler pencil two 24 inch pieces of yarn 1) Fold the paper plates in half. Staple the 3 plates together where they overlap. 2) To make the headpiece, slide the last plate over one of the end plates. The whole hat now looks like the number "7". Staple securely in place. 3) With adult help, use a pencil to punch a hole on each side of the headpiece plate. Insert 1 peice of yarn into each hole. Tie yarn in a knot to secure it in the whole. Tie the yarn under the child's chin to keep the hat on their head. *Tyrannosaurus Rex Snouts You'll need Scissors Tape Plastic foam or paper cup with bottom removed four 2 1/2 inch pieces of rickrack orZig zag pieces of material or construction paper two 24 inch pieces of yarn 1) Starting at the bottom of the cup cut 1 wedge out of the cup. I asked this giant dinosaur Is it the plant that's near the door, The one that measures five foot four? Oh yes!, it answered with a roar, I'm hungry and my belly's sore. There's nothing in the dinostore To feed a famished herbivore A leafy lunch, a crunchy core Is all the food I'm looking for. If you agree to feed me more, This tempting plant I shall ignore. I spread some green across the floor, Then stood by in the corridor. And watched the starving stegosaur Gorge salad, soup and apple core. It left no litter on the floor, And thanked me at the ktichen door.
