There goes the web! (Fall down with the kids) •Learn about how your Eyes work * You see with your eyes, but also with your brain. First, light passes into your eye and forms an upside-down picture on your retina. The retina has special nerve cells on it. When the light hits these cells, they send a "picture message" to your brain. Your brain interprets the message into a right-side-up picture--and you see! * The human eye can see about seven million shades of color. * A color-blind person cannot tell colors apart. Most color-blind people can see shades of yellow and blue pretty well, but red and green look alike to them. A few color-blind people cannot see any colors. They see everything in black, white, and shades of gray. This condition is inherited, but it is not common. More boys are color-blind than girls. •Memory Eggs: Place two or three different colored eggs in an empty egg carton. Show the eggs to the children and then close the lid. Ask the children to name the colors they remember seeing. Open the lid to show the children the actural eggs. Continue the game, adding a different colored egg each time. •Pattern Eggs: Draw and cut out six large cardboard eggs. Glue a different pattern of fabric or wallpaper to each egg. Cut the eggs in half .Let the children take turns matching the egg halves. •Eggs Use plastic eggs (from Easter) and have the children glue Easter-egg grass in half of an egg. Show them how to make a chick by gluing two cotton balls together and making a tiny face on the top ball. Have them put their chicks in their eggs and use stickers to decorate the outside of the eggs. •Eskimos Ask the children to cut out a large round shape for the face of an Eskimo. Show them how to glue white cotton balls around the face for the fur of a hood. Have them glue or color on other features. Talk about why Eskimos need to be dressed in warm clothing. •Egg Rolls Teach the children ho to do "egg rolls" on mats. Have them begin in a sitting position with their knees up. Have them roll sideways down the mats holding their knees tightly with their arms. •Exercises Do exercises with the children. Try jumping jacks, sit-ups, toe touches, etc. Call out the E as you do your exercises •Egg Boats Hard-boil one egg for every two children. Have the children work in pairs to peel the shell from the egg. Slice the egg in half and carefully remove the yolk and put into a small paper cup. Have each pair mix the yolk with 1 tsp. Mayonnaise, 1/2 Tsp Mustard and a dash of salt and pepper. This mixture is scooped back into the hollows of the white. Have each child make a sail for the boat with a toothpick and a paper flag with the letter E on it. Stick the sail into their "boats" before they eat. •E is for Elephants the obvious Elephant-type stuff -- making long elephant nose masks and clomping around •How to make your body into an E To be a big E, Just sit right down. Stretch your legs out And try not to frown. Hold out your left arm, Stretch it out far. Bend your other arm, And there you are. • Science- eggs in vinegar, eggs in salt water for floating, Eggs in cola for staining •Evaporation •Egg yolk painting... Take egg yolks and add food coloring.... makes a very pretty and shiny picure. •Paper Plate Elephant The children paint paper plates gray....then add construction paper ears...& eyes...the BIG wiggly ones look cute.....then cut out a circle from the center of the plate....this is where the children stick their arms through to make the trunk!! •Elephants- You can make elephant trunks by painting paper towel rolls gray and when dry the children can put them on and pretend to be elephants. •One Elephant Went Out to Play Materials: Rope What to Do: Put the tightrope (rope) down in the center of the circle. Have the elephant (child) to stand on the rope. children sing the following song: One elephant went out to play on a tightrope string one day. He had such enormous fun, He called for another elephant to come. - first line of the song and the next three lines increasing the number of elephants until each child has a turn. Then sing the following verse.) 5 (Or the number of children) elephants went out to play on a tightrope string one day they had such enormous fun, but the tightrope broke and they all fell down! •Elephant Right foot, left foot, see me go. I am gray and big and SLOW. I come walking down the street With my trunk and four big feet. •Three Big Elephants Three big elephants - oh, what a signt, Swinging their trunks from left to right! Two are followers, and one is the king. They all walk around in the circus ring. •Elephants Five little elephants Standing in a row Five little trunks Waving to and fro "Good day" said an elephant "I must go". Four little elephants standing in a row.Continue with Four little elephants... Three little elephants Two little elephants One little elephant. Actions- 1. stand in rows 2. swing arms and trunks 3. as one elephant goes the children sit down 4. stand in rows again for next verse * Egg People Hard Boiled Eggs (one for each child) Facial Patterns I have Carson Dellosa's Jumbo Alphabet book and in it you will find all of the patterns you will need there. We had differenty style eyes (regular eyes and some with glasses), two different size ears and we found patterns of both boys and girls clothes in another book and shrank them down to size. Platform - This is the base that your egg will sit on. It is just like the bases you find for easter eggs. It is basically a half moon with flat ends instead of pointed eggs. You wrap with piece around and the egg sits on top. Yarm - different colors for different types of hair. The rest is up to the imagination of each child. These egg people really turned out cute. Elephants (paper plates) Have each child paint one side of a paper paint with gray tempura paint (we mixed black and white). Cut gray construction paper into 1 inch wide strips and accordian fold for the elephants trunk. We used white ovals and smaller black circles for eyes and just free hand drew a set of ears. The ears looked like a large dog bone and then we drew a line down the center. Glue the ears to the back of the paper plate, glue on your trunk and eyes and there you have a really cute elephant. Egg Shell Art You need a lot of egg shells for this project. You can two different things. We photocopied an upper-case "E" and a lower-case "e" onto construction paper. Then had the children glue the white egg shells onto the letters. We left the egg shells white because white is our color of the month. You can also soak the egg shells in food coloring (just like you dye easter eggs), allow them to dry and use the colored eggs to make any type of picture you'd like. Scrambled Eggs We cook every Thursday so we made scrambled eggs and toast for snack. The children really enjoy cooking and its a great way to expose little ones to science.
